Does anyone have a comprehensive list of the fixed-width fonts?
On my computer, the only ones listed are Andale Mono, Courier, Courier New, and Monaco.

Re: Fixed width fonts?
Sun, June 18, 2006 - 3:49 PMThere are oodles of them out there. It depends on what format you are interested in. OpenType, TrueType, PS Type1, X BDF, MS .FON, etc., etc., etc. -

Sun, June 18, 2006 - 11:25 PMOn Mac OS X you'll be using Dfont, TrueType, and OpenType.
Are you asking about what sort of fixed width fonts there are available out there, or just the ones that come installed by default? -

Re: Fixed width fonts?
Mon, June 19, 2006 - 5:50 PMThat's one good way. Also check the web catalogs of reputable font dealers, like Adobe, Linotype, Monotype, etc. Sticking with the well known dealers ensures that you get a font with good behavior and hinting.
You can wander through the fonts for Linux distros which include many fixed width fonts.
Also most CJK fonts have fixed width Latin glyphs. Check all those strangely named "foreign" fonts on your system for fixed width. Unfortunately CJK fonts are known for *ugly* Latin characters, but you may find something you like. -

Re: Fixed width fonts?
Mon, June 26, 2006 - 8:23 PMHappy to help. The world needs more good monospace fonts, particularly ones that cover large parts of Unicode and have good hinting at large sizes with bitmaps for small sizes. But I ask too much...
